2008 Summer Intensive Seminar

The Montgomery Ballet
For more than 50 years, The Montgomery Ballet School has provided top quality instruction for thousands of students, beginner through advanced and professional levels. The Ballet’s program is designed for those who aspire to a career in dance. The Montgomery Ballet is recognized for the quality of its work; its strong, classically trained dancers; and its variety of style ranging from classical to contemporary ballet.

Faculty
Elie Lazar, Artistic Director of the Montgomery Ballet, leads the outstanding faculty. The teachers work with each dancer, focusing on their own technical progress. “A school is the foundation of a company. Investing in youth, their talent and potential should be the aim of an educational organization. Precision and achievement cannot be gained quickly, but need to be nurtured, directed and motivated. In our school we strengthen not only the legs and arms, but also the soul of our students, as well as giving them an opportunity to grow and develop to become responsible, thinking and aware of their bodies.”
--Elie Lazar, Artistic Director

Classes
The Montgomery Ballet’s Summer Intensive Seminar focuses on ballet, and also offers a wide variety of classes in other dance forms, including Jazz, Modern, Character, Men’s Class, Variations and Partnering. The Seminar is designed for those who desire the best training available, and who are up for the challenge of a rigorous and fulfilling program. Seminar Faculty place students in the appropriate class level on the first day.

The Studios
Montgomery Ballet School is located in an airconditioned facility with three large studios featuring high ceilings and sprung floors. The facility is in Central Montgomery, located near many hotels, restaurants and businesses.

Performance Opportunities
All participants in the 2008 Summer Intensive Seminar will have the opportunity to perform at the Montgomery Ballet’s 33rd Annual “Performance on the Green”, lakeside at the Blount Cultural Park on July 18, 2008. Attended by thousands each year, this free outdoor performance has been named a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society, and is one of Montgomery’s cultural highlights of the summer.

Scholarships
A limited number of merit-based tuition scholarships are available. Qualified students may apply and audition for financial assistance under the Montgomery Ballet’s assistance program. This program is designed to provide training for students who would not otherwise have an opportunity to study because of financial need.
